How would you take pictures of airplanes at the airport?

I am interested in taking pictures of airplanes, and i am wondering how you would take pictures of airplanes at the airport. Like some people post airplane pictures on flickr and i want to take pictures like them. I am not asking what to use, but what to do and where to go.
Take pictures from outside of the airport. At most airports, there is a spot where there is no fence and you can see planes.
Or you can take them from inside. All airports have huge windows where you can see them.

At any airport around the World you could find visitors deck from where you could take pictures. Photographers specialized in airplane photography usually have their own place from where they could take best pictures. For example from a Highway parallel with runaway or something else.
Usually they have they’re own spots for shooting during the day. For example they know that some plane is usually parked at same place in the airport.

Well, photography in most airports around the world, is tolerated, but in some sensative regions(like India where some civil airports are doubled as military air-bases also), it is strictly prohibited. My advice is not to get adventurous with your camera and follow the proper rules of the land.
Politely ask the officials of the airport authority for permission to click some shots.
Be friendly and Try to involve them in your activity…ask fo their guidance and Please Be Sure To SMILE a lot!
Once they sense, you are a harmless tourist or a keen photographer, they usually relax their muscles and grant permission.
Please Note: DO NOT insist! and DO NOT try to steal a quick shot….afterall our security is their prime concern.

many major airports around the world have specialized areas for plane spotters.
There are many groups around the world who go out on Sunday afternoons and just take photos of taxiing, landing and taking off aircraft.
Then if these photos are good enough (and with a good camera), then you can upload them to Jetphotos.net
Jetphotos.net have a fair few regestered plane spotting groups around the world. Here is the page (in scorces). Have a look and see if an airport/group is close to you. Many of them have their own websites, and just about all of them have an email address so you can contact them to ask where they take their photos from most of the time.
If you are still not sure, you can ring the general enquiries number at the airport you want to take pics from and they generally know where the spotters area is. Sometimes there is more than one and many airports have ‘non-official spotting zones’ like in public parks near the airport. They can tell you everything
If you want to take photos from inside the terminal, then I would suggest to only do that when you are actually getting on a flight yourself.
